IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System; it is an English proficiency test checking the candidate in the four modules of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Taking the IELTS is mandatory for doing higher education in many English speaking countries as well as for employment purposes or application for Permanent Residence (PR).
Two options are available for the candidates to choose from: the Pen and Paper test and the Computer Based Test (CBT). Listening, Reading and Writing (L/R/W) modules are generally conducted on one day while the Speaking module may be conducted on another day. The maximum band score attainable by a candidate is 9 and the minimum is 0.
